Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation technique using a sterile surgical scalpel held at a precise angle to gently remove the topmost layer of dead skin and vellus hair. The procedure takes 20-30 minutes, requires no anesthesia, and produces immediate skin smoothness with the bonus of removing facial peach fuzz that traps oil and makeup.
Despite intuitive concerns, vellus hair regrows at the same rate, color, and texture as before treatment — it does not grow back darker or thicker (a common myth). Treatment is best done monthly and is often combined with chemical peel, hydrafacial, or LED therapy in the same session. Suitable for nearly all skin types, though active acne breakouts and sensitive rosacea should wait until those concerns are calm.
