Hair transplantation involves extracting hair follicles from a donor area (back and sides of the scalp) and implanting them into thinning or bald areas. FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) accounts for 75% of all procedures — individual follicles are extracted with a micro-punch (0.6–1.0mm). FUT (Follicular Unit Transplant) removes a strip of scalp for graft dissection. DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) uses a Choi implanter pen for simultaneous extraction and placement.
Typical graft counts range from 1,500 to 5,000 per session. Natural scalp density is 60–80 follicular units per cm², with transplanted density goals of 30–50 FU/cm². Graft survival rates reach 90–98% for FUE. Hair grows approximately 1cm per month, with visible results at 6–12 months post-procedure.
