The technique uses very fine needles and pigments specifically formulated for lip tissue — different from body-tattoo pigments which can fade unpredictably.
Treatment requires 2 sessions: an initial 2-3 hour application, followed by a touch-up 6-8 weeks later to refine the color. Final results last 2-3 years before refresh is needed. Color choices range from natural pink/coral tones (subtle enhancement) to bold reds (for those wanting more dramatic effect). Recovery involves 5-7 days of swollen, scaly lips that gradually flake to reveal the final color. Pre-treatment consultation should include screening for cold sore history (HSV) since lip tattoo can trigger outbreaks — antiviral prophylaxis is standard for affected patients.
