Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) removes excess abdominal skin and fat while tightening the underlying musculature. Rectus diastasis — the separation of the abdominal muscles — affects approximately 40% of women six months postpartum and can only be corrected surgically.
Three main types address different degrees of concern: mini abdominoplasty targets only the lower abdomen with a shorter incision; full abdominoplasty addresses the entire abdominal panel with belly button repositioning; and extended abdominoplasty includes flank and lower back contouring for patients with significant excess tissue.
