Buttock implants use solid silicone implants placed beneath the gluteal muscle to add permanent volume and projection. Unlike BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift, which uses fat transfer), implants don't require fat harvest — making them an option for thin patients without enough donor fat. They also provide more predictable, consistent volume since fat transfer has variable retention rates.
Implants come in various shapes (round, oval, anatomical) and sizes (200-700cc range). Recovery is significant — patients cannot sit directly on their buttocks for 4-6 weeks, and full healing takes 3 months. The procedure carries higher complication rates than BBL (infection, implant migration, capsular contracture) and the recovery is more demanding. Patient selection is critical: thin patients without fat donor sites benefit most, while patients with adequate fat are usually better served by BBL.
