Cellulite is caused by fibrous bands (septae) that tether skin to underlying muscle while fat cells push up against them, creating the dimpled appearance most common in thighs and buttocks. Diet and exercise alone cannot resolve cellulite because the issue is structural rather than fat-related. Modern treatments target the septae directly:

QWO was an injectable enzyme that dissolved septae but was discontinued in 2023 due to inconsistent results. Cellulaze is a laser device delivered through small cannulas that simultaneously releases septae, melts fat, and stimulates collagen. Newer non-invasive options like Emtone use thermal and acoustic shockwave energy. Best candidates are women near their target weight with discrete cellulite dimples — none of these treatments address generalized texture irregularity well.
