Q-switched / picosecond laser treatment that breaks down tattoo ink particles for clearance through the lymphatic system. The standard method for tattoo removal worldwide.
What to expect
Typical milestones for an aesthetic-procedure patient. Your surgeon will personalise the plan during your consultation.
Before surgery
Consultation
Surgeon reviews your photos + the simulator preview, sets realistic expectations, and books the procedure date.
Day 0
Procedure
In-clinic procedure under local or general anaesthetic. Most patients go home the same day.
Days 1–7
Early recovery
Swelling and bruising peak around day 3 then start to subside. Most patients work from home this week.
Weeks 2–6
Settling in
Visible swelling resolves; you can return to social commitments + light exercise. Final shape still emerging.
Months 6–12
Final result
Tissues fully settle and the simulated outcome becomes your real face. Follow-up review with your surgeon.

Laser tattoo removal uses pulsed laser energy at specific wavelengths to break down ink particles in the dermis, after which the body's lymphatic system clears the fragments over weeks. Q-switched lasers (nanosecond pulses) and the newer picosecond lasers each target different ink colors via wavelength specificity — black ink absorbs broadly, while reds, greens, and blues require specific wavelengths.
Treatment is gradual: most professional tattoos require 6-12 sessions spaced 6-8 weeks apart, while amateur tattoos clear in 4-8 sessions. Picosecond lasers shorten timelines and improve clearance of stubborn colors compared to Q-switched. Older tattoos and those on the chest/back clear faster than fresh or extremity tattoos. Complete removal is realistic for most professional tattoos but darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick IV-VI) require careful wavelength selection to avoid hypopigmentation.
Anyone wanting to remove an unwanted tattoo. Best results in lighter skin tones with darker ink colors; darker skin requires careful provider selection.
Recovery Time
Per session: 1-2 weeks for skin healing; full clearance over 12-18 months
Procedure Duration
10-30 minutes per session; 6-12 sessions typical
Typical Cost Range
$200 – $500
