Kybella (deoxycholic acid) is an injectable solution FDA-approved specifically for the reduction of submental (under-chin) fat — what most patients call a "double chin". The active ingredient is a synthetic version of a naturally occurring bile acid that destroys fat-cell membranes, causing those cells to be permanently removed via the body's lymphatic system.

Treatment involves a series of small injections into the fat under the chin — typically 20-50 injections per session — performed in the office in 15-30 minutes. Most patients require 2-4 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart for visible reduction. Once destroyed, the fat cells do not regenerate, making results durable as long as overall weight is maintained. Side effects include significant swelling that can last 1-2 weeks, hardness in the area for several weeks, and occasional bruising — all expected and resolve on their own.
