Breast lift (mastopexy) addresses ptosis — the medical term for breast sag — by removing excess skin and reshaping the underlying breast tissue. Unlike breast reduction, mastopexy does not significantly change breast volume; it primarily restores shape and position. Common causes of ptosis include pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuation, aging, and gravity over time.
Surgeons select the incision pattern based on the degree of ptosis: a circumareolar (donut) lift for mild cases, vertical (lollipop) for moderate, and anchor (Wise pattern) for severe.
