Breast reduction (reduction mammoplasty) removes excess breast tissue, fat, and skin to create smaller, lighter, better-proportioned breasts. Unlike most cosmetic procedures, breast reduction often qualifies as medically necessary for women with documented physical symptoms — chronic back/shoulder/neck pain, postural issues, skin irritation under the breast crease, or grooves from bra straps — and is covered by many insurance plans when those symptoms are properly documented.

The most common technique uses an anchor or vertical (lollipop) incision pattern, removing tissue and repositioning the nipple-areola complex on its own blood supply.
