Dimpleplasty creates artificial cheek dimples by suturing a small portion of the buccinator muscle to the inner cheek skin, causing a depression to form when the patient smiles. The procedure is performed entirely through a small incision inside the mouth, leaving no external scars. The depth and position of the dimple are customized at consultation, and patients can preview the proposed dimple location with a marker test.
For the first 4-6 weeks post-procedure, the dimple appears even when the face is at rest (not just when smiling) — this is expected and gradually evolves to a smile-only dimple as the surgical adhesions mature. The procedure is technically simple but requires precision: misplaced dimples are difficult to revise, and over-deep dimples can look unnatural. Particularly popular in South Korea, Thailand, and parts of South Asia where dimples are considered an attractive feature.
