Otoplasty corrects prominent or asymmetrical ears by reshaping the cartilage and bringing the ear closer to the side of the head. It is one of the most commonly performed facial procedures in children but is equally suitable for adults — the cartilage finishes developing by age 5–6, after which the procedure is anatomically straightforward.
The most common technique uses a small incision behind the ear to access the cartilage, which is then folded, scored, or sutured into a more natural anti-helical fold. Modern techniques minimize visible scarring by hiding all incisions behind the ear. The procedure can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation in most adult cases.
Our planning tool models conchal-mastoid distance reduction, anti-helical fold creation, and earlobe positioning relative to the standard 1.5–2cm protrusion target. Symmetry between ears is the primary aesthetic measure — surgeons aim for a sub-3mm bilateral difference at the helical apex.
