Microneedling — also known as Collagen Induction Therapy or Skin Needling — uses an array of very fine needles (0.25–3.0mm depending on indication) to create thousands of controlled micro-injuries in the skin. These tiny punctures trigger the body's natural wound-healing cascade, stimulating fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin without damaging the epidermis.
The procedure can be performed with manual rollers (less precise), automated pens (the modern standard), or radiofrequency-enabled devices (RF microneedling — more aggressive, treats deeper layers). Treatment depth is calibrated to the indication: 0.5mm for surface texture and pore size, 1.5–2mm for fine lines, and 2.5–3mm for acne scars and stretch marks.
Most patients require 3–6 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart for optimal results. Improvements continue for 3–6 months after the final session as collagen remodels. Microneedling is one of the most versatile non-surgical treatments — appropriate for nearly all skin types and tones (including darker skin where lasers carry pigmentation risks).
